C'est ça, le marketing

For the first time in This is marketing, Seth Godin gives an accessible and timeless explanation of all he knows about marketing.

His approach lies on one main idea: good marketers do not use consumers to solve the problems they face in their companies, they use marketing to solve the issues of human beings. They do not want to make an impression, they want to make the world a better place. When marketing is genuinely powerful, it is generated by generosity, empathy and emotion.

Thanks to This is marketing, you will find out how to identify the smallest viable public. Generate trust on your market and get the permission to be connected to it. Use the language of your fans. Find the courage to create and release tension. And, more important, give your public tools and story they need to meet their objectives.

Seth Godin (born July 10th, 1960) is an American entrepreneur and former direct marketing manager at Yahoo. He is also a writer and a successful speaker. He popularized permission marketing, an approach of communication and advertising in which permission is asked to the target first as opposed to interruption marketing. The point of permission marketing is to push the client to enter and then to accept growing levels of permission (or consent) for a brand or a product through relational marketing. His book Linchpin was published in 2010. It goes beyond marketing to deal with personal development. The books he wrote after that one promote professional accomplishment. They encourage people to be unique and to start. In February 2012, Seth Godin published a manifesto for free download: Stop Stealing Dreams
